I recently made an important purchase for my personal collection of books about the early history of our Order.
Through a German rare bookseller I recently bought a complete, original copy of The Order of Saint Joachim's Rules and Statutes - 1787. This small book (162 pages) was published for the use of its members shortly after the Order's name was changed to "The Order of Saint Joachim" in 1785.
The Order likely had 75-100 members at that time, and so the private print run was very small. It was authorized by the Order's Chancellor, Hanns Karl, Baron von Ecker und Eckhoffen, and published in Hamburg on June 20, 1787.
The text is in German on light green paper with a few illustrations of the Order's insignia. It contains all the rules and regulations that governed the Order at that time.
I hope to be able to scan the document in the coming weeks and either post it or publish it as a facsimile edition with some translation.
It is remarkable that such an artifact has survived more than two centuries and finally found its way back home.
