Order of St. Joachim in 'Sharpe's Battle'

Postby LivingstonKJ on Fri May 18, 2007 2:19 am

Of some interest – closely related to the article in the Herald regarding the Order of St. Joachim in the ‘Blackadder’ series. A few months ago I was watching Sharpe’s Battle on the History channel and noticed that one of the characters, Lord Kiely, is wearing the breast star of our Order. It’s only during one scene – in the evening when he has occasion to wear full dress and all his honours. It's on the left side of his tunic, and during the scene, there are several close shots that feature the breast star. What also struck me about the character is that he looks similar to Joachim Murat (perhaps it’s the white high-collar tunic, side-burns, and curly hair). I haven’t been able to acquire a photo of the actor wearing the breast star on-line… the best I could muster is one that features the back of the actor’s head and a cast shot (not the scene or uniform when he’s wearing the breast star). If you have the movie, as well as the ability to capture images and post them on-line, please post them on-line. Good hunting!

Actually, I found a picture with him wearing the badge. Not a great shot, but you can see it.

Great photo! We sure do get around. The breast star doesn't seem to be the one currently sold by Hand & Lock. I wonder who made it up.

Here's the Hand & Lock version:

The movie ran in 1995 - over a decade ago. Did Hand & Lock make any ealier versions?

I wonder if it is by the same people who made the different one I showed in this link: http://stjoachimorder.freeforums.org/viewtopic.php?t=14.

It's a little thicker and more ragged along the edges.
