Image Upload

Postby Grand Master on Sat May 05, 2007 2:33 am

Your photos and images can be uploaded into this forum for all to enjoy. The forum supports jpegs (*.JPG) and GIF (*.GIF) file formats. It does not support BMPs.

There are a few tricks to doing it properly. The image file size limit for these forums is set at 128K. That is easily large enough to provide good detail and a large size within a post.

You will most likely have to fiddle with your images and photos to get them down to a manageable size. There are a few tricks to keep the quality and size good.

If you have a photo tweaking software package like Photoshop, Photodelux, or any of the image editing programs that come with digital cameras or scanners, you probably have all you need to create small file sizes. Often there is a menu item called "save for web" or "save for email" that will automatically adjust your pictures. There is also freeware that will do basic photo editing.

A computer screen only shows images at about 72 dpi - anything more than that is wasted and loads slowly. Also, a standard size for a computer screen is about 1100 pixels - and you don't want to use up a full screen. 800 pixels is plently large enough. Modern digital cameras take photos at 72 dpi, but the photo size can be over 27 inches wide (about 2000 pixels). Use your software to scale the photo down in size and keep it at 72 dpi. There is usually also an indicator of how big the final image file size will be. Keep an eye on it and keep it just under 128K for best results, although smaller files often look just fine.

Make sure you crop photos down to just what you are trying to show. Nothing is worse than a photo two screens wide with a tiny badge in the middle that is less than an inch square.

For example, the below portrait is 600 pixels wide and 72 dpi, and takes up only 102K of file space. You don't need to go any bigger to get good results.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
